Background
1848 a revolutionary time for woman as it marked the first convention advocating women’s rights. Although many people have heard of the convention not many people how the idea for it came to be, the idea for this convention was conceived at the World’s Anti-Slavery Convention in London. Both Elizabeth and her husband attempted to attend the London convention however the convention excluded women from attending. The women were seated in a separate section away from where the topics were being discussed. It was in this section that Elizabeth and Lucretia met. During the course of the convention they were unable to attend they discussed the idea of having a convention talking about women’s rights, however it would be five years before any of the ideas discussed at the anti-slavery convention were brought to a larger audience. Over the course of the five years leading up to the convention Elizabeth had around seven children and got together with her friends every week. It was at one of these gatherings that the plan for the convention was hatched.
